like many of us over here at bear towers, giorgio sancristoforo aka tobor disco experience has an unhealthy interest in the 1970s - the instruments of bob moog, vocoders, alan parsons - the cult sci fi series space 1999 - and here hes used the decade as a sonic palette to create the kind of ep that gets the whole office (ie: both of us, on pcs at home, occasionally) sitting up and listening. opener disco moog has already been used on our rools for rules compilation earlier this year and had many beards twitching at the prospect of forthcoming vinyl. shooting star is a more uptempo affair with blissful chords, slap bass, disco handclaps and gios trademark vocoder. i feel loved is a personal favourite of stevie kotey with anthem written all over it. this awesome clavinet workout has such a good vibe about it you cant help feeling nothing but loved. it could easy be mistaken for alan hawkshaw super rare bruton library track.

mystery surrounds hot new electronic property burns. his myspace suggests a friend and fan base consisting of the likes of calvin harris, dj mehdi, mr. oizo and mark ronson and by the sound of this cheeky white label his future is very bright. we cant say too much about these two tracks but what we can tell you is that both are guaranteed to destroy the dancefloor! heavy french filtered house is the style and boy does burns do it well.

itamar sagi from the be as one label really made a name for himself with his black gold track that was released earlier this year. inspired by the warmer and more emotional side of detroit techno he very much captured something real and true in that song which certaintly paid off in the end. here he has done something a bit different. not less good though. actually better. this is a record for those moments when you need to increase the pace but still wants to keep the soul. perfect!

d. diggler aka andreas mügge is back ! this time not on planet vision but on pascals new label: level non zero. blessed with a father who is a jazz musician, andreas started to play the drums at the tender age of twelve, and joined his father in his jazz combo. soon he realized that his future is not to play in a band but to make his musical ideas become reality through the necessary midi equipment. his first release for raum...musik boogiemonster hit several dj charts, club charts and was played in heavy rotation on hr 3 xxl. so did the following releases. d.diggler s first album was released in april 2000 on cd and vinyl, its sound range varying from deep to technoid-slamming. since then he can look back on 45 releases and 20 remixes and is a dj + liveact who playes in the first league. on level non zero he shows us with three new traxs his variety: from „hypno-techno“ (drehmoment), over deep tech-house (deepdown), to dub-house (control). we remember the old raum...musik times...

entertainment is a duo. im a cliché is proud to release their very first e.p on september 29th. juan de guillebon is the bass player. he studied a lot jaco pastorius, but decided not to spend the rest of his life playing in jazz rock combos. you can easily guess his attraction to no wave bands (suicide or james chance), krautrock (his faves are cluster), or ebm and early electro (daf). alongside, hes part of the ectoplasmic band, performing as backing band for tigersushis boss joakim. antoine montgaudon plays the guitar, and we bet he would have fit perfectly in any brian enos late 70s recording. he builds endless psychedelic atmospheres with feedbacks, loops and fxs. all this only with his guitar. hes also part of my sister klaus, a project released on tigersushi (again).

a fresh addition to the moodmusic roster but a longtime veteran in the house-scene, alexander maier aka dj all*star from stuttgart is well known from his earlier releases on buzzin fly, exun and criminal records. he began his career playing underground techno in south of germany but over the years became more and more influenced by detroit and chicago house. you can hear these influences on sahara in both the rain and river version. deep and reduced grooves with enough soul and atmosphere, yet fully functional for the floor, sahara rain kicks in with a heavy bass sequence building a perfect platform to be followed by the synththeme which hit s the peak hour perfectly. i see some hands going up here already… sahara river starts more housey, building a classy, low-slung huge groove with perculating synths and almost tribal feel to the drums. the modulating synths lifts the track to new heights with a break of superbly layered twisted pads before the drums kick back in in full effect. as this would not be enough we asked our thrusted chicago connection and alexs buddy, mazi aka audio soul project to remix sahara rain. if you consider people who s been in the biz for some time mazi is one of the warriors of the sound, never choosing the easy way but thrustfully following his true way of house music. and house it is, classic but cleverly updated to 2008 with a twist of so-cal thrown in for good measure. bouncey and jacking is the words which comes into mind when hearing this, excellent work and a another bomb for the hot months to come

once again, tuningspork records ventures away from its trademark funky house in exchange for something a little more unexpected. last summer, the label issued >free your mind< (tsextra), a baleraric groove crafted by jay haze and ricardo villalobos. now comes another non-sequitur: >comptine d un autre été: l après-midi< (tsultra), mr. tiersens piano composition reconstructed for the dancefloor by jay. french composer yann tiersen has a minimalist approach that many electronic producers could learn from. his piece (the title of which roughly means >nursery rhyme of another summer: the afternoon<) provides the basis for this melancholy track. djs addicted to hyperbolic effects plugins might hesitate to play this - but those who appreciate subtlety will be rewarded here. tiersens original composition is tastefully manipulated into a track that makes sense in a club context, yet sets itself apart from the usual techno/house fare, providing a rare introspective moment on the dancefloor. and it might be worth mentioning: if you play this track and the floor doesnt fill up with ladies, then it probably means youre djing at a gay club. (not that theres anything wrong with that!)

i get deep, i get deep, i get deeper. that should actually read he gets deep. dj roland clark, that is one of the rulers of the sermonizing vocal, roland steps up to the pulpit once again with his latest release, black in my soul, on king street. this man not only has black in his soul but also an excellent sense of humor, including the ability to work it into his productions, and thats something we all have time to appreciate. swedish producer extraordinaire tiger stripes pumps us full of his dark fuel creating an intricate, nicely rhythmic and dancefloor dramatic track. his dub vox retains its deep and dark stature but twist synths rolands voice into a fiendish narrator. west coast producer david hernandez funkifies this tune on his deep west mix but keeps the deepness well intact. say it loud and dance proud!

remixes by kollektiv turmstrasse, noze & apparat !! raz ohara and the odd orchestra received critical acclaim for their self titled album released earlier this year. they may have not been the inventors of their unique style, but the danish patrick rasmussen and his german cohort oliver doerell have certainly helped to redefined the idea of what an electronic musical album can, could and should be. just as artists such as bjork, portishead and booka shade have done so before them. following up their first album single, kisses, this is offering with four other tracks from the album that get the remix treatment courtesy of apparat, kollektiv turmstrasse, nôze and raz himself. it was only a matter of time before one of razs tracks got the 4x4 treatment. kollektiv turmstrasse have showed respect and kept the spirit of the original alive. keeping the original guitar and vocal arrangement intact while simply adding a little bump and shake to the mix. raz shows us that things can be better the second time around, as he continues to proclaim his, love for mrs. rhodes. although he does not trade in his melodies for a kick and snare, they are certainly more prevalent in this dramatized mix complete with arpeggiated synths and additional sound effects. hopefully, this time he will win her heart
